HipHop Culture

Ashley Judd recently came under fire for saying that Hip Hop artists promote rape culture. ?uestlove responded and started a tweet battle with Ms. Judd over her comments.

On Russell Simmons blog, she attempted to explain herself by saying that Hip Hop Culture tends to treat women in a hyper-sexualized misogynistic way. Was she wrong? Even if her statement was a general one, where she didn't tip-toe into the land of near-legalese to explain what she meant, isn't this the rant feminists have been making for a long time, including Oprah?

It behooves us all to remember that much of the degenerate hip-hop lyrics and music are not consumed by the African American community. A documentary HipHop: Beyond Beats & Rhymes produced by Bryon Hurt explores Hip Hop culture and it's varied and vast nooks and crannies and uncovers some things you might not know existed in the quest for fame.

Watch the video. See what you think. Let's discuss.
