When I was younger, Sundays, not Mondays, were the worst days of the week. We spent most of the morning in Church, rushed home for lunch, raced around getting hair done, homework completed, uniforms ironed and weekly snacks made (my mom made lots of cupcakes) in preparation for the school week.
As an adult I schedule the madness for the week so nothing takes up my weekend and yet I cannot shake that feeling of dread every time the weekend comes to a close and Monday rears its ugly head.
For those of us plagued by familial depression, this is not a good thing. I would like to suggest a few things to help ease you into Monday so that rather than being the day you dread the most, it will be a comfortable lift off to the rest of the week.
1. As you prepare for Monday, play your favourite calming music.
2. Save your Sunday evening for yourself. Take a long bath with special bubbles or prepare to watch a good chick flick or feel good movie.
3. Eat something light so your dreams will not be troubled. Opt for half a plate serving or a light salad.
4. On Friday before you rush out of work, clean up your desk, respond to email messages and take some time to read the news so you can skip the rush of traffic home.
5. Sleep for an extra 15 minutes in the morning (having done most of your preparation the day before) and end your shower with cold water.
6. Play some upbeat music to get you started
7. Don't forget a crunchy fruit (like an apple or pear) to go along with your breakfast!
